The Sheffield City Region has an increasingly prominent position on the global stage. Through showcasing the world-class capabilities Sheffield City Region has to offer the SCR has developed close ties with India, one of the foremost economies on the planet. Earlier this year Sheffield was host to the Access India Programme Business Breakfast, a first of its kind for the SCR and was part of the Access India Programme, working with the UK India Business Council and the High Commission for India in London.
Representatives from small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) from across the region got the chance to hear from experts, meet companies who successfully trade in India and network over breakfast.
In 2015 Sheffield City Region businesses exported £81m worth of goods to India, and it was one of the top five source markets for investment into the SCR between 2006 and 2016.
The event, held at the Mercure St Paul’s hotel in Sheffield city centre, demonstrated the benefits that trading in India can have on developing and established SME’s. The event received high praise from both attendees and the hosts and could hopefully see stronger ties between the SCR and India in the future.
The High Commission of India in London is the diplomatic mission of India in the United Kingdom and is supported by UK India Business Council as the official Knowledge Partner for the Access India Programme.
This event was supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded Exporting for Growth Programme.
